Mr. Galanter has represented clients in a wide variety of business, commercial, and entertainment-related disputes. He has tried numerous cases in California and federal district courts and before domestic and international arbitration tribunals, and has appeared regularly before the California Court of Appeal and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

Mr. Galanter’s extensive litigation experience includes the representation of a major film studio in litigation involving a multinational television joint venture in the Philippines; a dispute over international licensing revenues from distribution of a major motion picture; and infringement by a British Isles company of a well-known television trademark. He was lead counsel for the finance division of a major commercial aircraft manufacturer in the federal court trial of a commercial bad faith case arising from the breach of a $100 million loan agreement, obtaining a favorable judgment. He successfully represented a Swiss steel shipper in claims against Japanese and Brazilian conglomerates exceeding $25 million in federal court and the Court of International Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce. He handled litigation over ownership of millions of dollars of real estate on the Mexican Riviera. More recently, in 2005 he argued successfully before the California Court of Appeal on behalf of plaintiffs against the State of California, reinstating a multi-million dollar judgment, and is presently handling the appeal of a $6.7 million verdict against the County of Los Angeles.

Mr. Galanter's international experience includes the representation of Asian and domestic companies involved in cross-border transactions and business disputes throughout the Pacific Rim. While a partner with the multinational firm of Baker & McKenzie LLP, and later as a member of the Asia Practice Groups of Holland & Knight LLP and Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly LLP, he worked with clients based in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines in connection with purchase and sale agreements, intellectual property licensing, employment disputes, trademark and copyright disputes, cargo handling disputes, and commercial arbitration claims.

While at Oppenheimer, he worked extensively in Singapore with government science agencies and local counsel to provide U.S. patent counseling services to Singapore’s expanding biotechnology industry. At Norris & Galanter LLP, Mr. Galanter continues to work with and advise clients involved in international business transactions, commercial disputes, arbitrations, and strategic projects in Asia with particular emphasis on the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

Mr. Galanter received his B.S. in 1977 from the State University of New York at Albany, and his J.D. in 1980 from the University of Southern California. He was admitted to the California Bar in 1980, and to the New York Bar in 1989. He is active in the Los Angeles County Bar Association (Vice-Chair, International Law Section), the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (member, Dispute Resolution Committee), and has written articles on intellectual property issues (“Fair Use of Trademarks and Copyrighted Works,” Entertainment, Publishing and the Arts Handbook (West Group, 2000-2001 ed.)), and on securities litigation for the American Bar Association.
